Project Outcome
Built's lighting approach remains subtle and purposeful, celebrating the building's heritage while accentuating its exciting architectural additions.

The office interior meets the standard for WELL Health Safety and WELL Platinum. Purposefully designed, the project is energy-efficient and led to a reduction in embodied carbon, with 90% of construction waste diverted from landfills.
Project Background
The Built Headquarters consists of two historic structures - a spirit warehouse from 1909 and an electrical substation from the 1930s. Therefore, the project's main focus is to showcase its deep appreciation for SubStation No.164's original build, emphasising sustainability in its every design decision.
Project Approach
Led by JHA's Senior Lighting Designer, Joanna Pan, the lighting design approach aims for integration and concealment, allowing the interior space and lighting effects to take precedence over the fixtures themselves, such as linear fixtures strategically outlining the interior and space-defining elements.

Built embraces the concept of wellbeing with curved green walls being one of the first interior elements to stand out. Illuminated by the horticultural solutions, these specks of greenery create a vibrant workplace.

Project Outcome
Cellar One's lighting design takes inspiration from museums. It skilfully highlights the curves and intricate details while offering different automatic modes for work, events and everyday display.

Celebrating Cloudy Bay's rich history, Cellar One has evolved into a unique experience centre and was recognised as the 2023 Regional New Zealand Institute of Architects (NZIA) Commercial Architecture Award winner.
Project Background
Cellar One's design is multi-functional as it is both a space for winemaking and an experience centre that showcases the inner-workings of the winemaking process.

Embracing innovation and technology, every design decision must be compliant with the Green Star NZ Design's 5-Star standard.
Project Approach
Complying with the Green Star standard, the lighting design utilises occupancy and daylight sensors to minimise energy use.

Equally functional, sustainable and aesthetically focused, the lighting design incorporates track fittings with Bluetooth individual control capabilities, as well as RGBW and 4000K-programmable linear profiles. Simultaneously, the fixtures provide high-performance colour rendering with CRI98 and high R9 red value to ensure accurate assessments of the final blend.

Project Outcome
The Kaleidoscope welcomes ample sunlight during the day and gradually introduces soft, warm light through architectural fixtures, creating a comfortable atmosphere, resulting in a versatile environment that exemplifies the fusion of modern office and accommodation design.
Project Background
The design assignment for The Kaleidoscope is celebrating the Vietnam culture through a space that connects people and nature. The build is also multifunctional in that it is both an accommodation and workspace.
Project Approach
Situated in a tree-filled area between the hills and the ocean, the project's lighting and architectural approach are connected through the kaleidoscope structure. Focusing on maximising natural light source, the structure offers diverse views through its clever fenestration approach.

Simultaneously, the building's roof is shaped like a "nón lá", the traditional Vietnamese headwear, to pay tribute to the culture.
